1989 F-150 4 speed manual shifter removal

How do you remove the shifter from a 1989
f-150 4 speed manual transmission?

on my 89 f250 theres 4 screws on the corners of the rubber matt. i believe there philips screw then lift it up and 2 more screws will take shifter off

1989 F-150 4 speed manual shifter removal

I have removed the rubber boot. There are 2 little red buttons on the shifter that push in. They must hold the shifter somehow.

There should be two screws in the top.. the buttons that pull out are guides in a way.

1989 F-150 4 speed manual shifter removal

The red buttons are inside a hole in the square part of the shifter that attaches to the round shift rod coming out of the transmission. They will not pull out, only push in.
