Depending on your location,Craigslist has some interesting deals, both on trucks as well as parts and upgrades......look for good deals on used stuff, especially if this isnt going to be a daily driver. In my area,i can find 67-77 F250 HighBoys in the $1500-$3000 dollar range all the time, and solid axle F350's from the mid 80's to early nineties, especially with gas engines are common in the $2500-$4000 range, and parts and upgrades are relatively common and cheap

I built myself a mudding truck last year, nothing special. All I wanted was something to have fun with on the weekend. (Not road legal “ORV” plate for registration) the truck is a 1979 F250 4x4 I built it in less than a week and I spent less than three grand truck included.
I put a 8” lift under the truck buy cutting off the spring mounts and putting blocks in. (between fame and spring perch) NO body lift Not an axel lift. If you brace everything up properly it works! I have been driving the truck for two years now and have not had to change or fix the lift once. The tire are off a swather they are... 21.5 16.1 (44” tall 21.5” wide 16.1” rim)
