Installed New Windshield Rubber BUT...
It seems like in certain areas around the edges of the seal its kind of loose like I can move it in and out a little with my finger.
Can I just pull back the edges and put smear some sealer in there?
By the way, I'm very happy with seal. It's from Dennis Carpenter and it fit really good. Considering this was my first time changing the seal, I was impressed with how RELATIVELY painless it was. I didn't even need to use any liquids like soap & water to help ease it into place. I just put the seal around the windshield, stuck the chrome trim back in there (it kinda seats right into place) and then wrapped some clothesline string all the way around. Then my friend kept pressure on it from the outside while I slowly pulled the string out from the inside. Pulling it around the corners was actually pretty tough, but we managed. The only thing is, for some reason I feel like the inside edge of the seal isn't all the way seated or something. I mean, the windshield doesn't budge, and we drove it around and over some ROUGH roads without any problems but I feel like the its going to leak unless I put some kind of sealer in there.
I don't know, overall it was good, but how do I make sure I really installed it right and that the windshield won't accidentally pop out or something and that its sealed right?
Thanks! --Matt

The fact that it went in real easy without soap makes me wonder if it is fully seated in the opening. It should not need any sealer if installed right. Run it thru a car wash or spray it with a hose to see if it leaks. If it does, it probably isn't installed right. You can also take it to a glass shop and have them take a look at it.... good luck T/M

Understand don't need a sealer; that being said, took 65 F100 to shop and they used a sealer, came out rock solid, no movement, purchased gasket thru DC. Darn windshield leaked and appeared prior owner tried to remedy by applying a sealer at various stages after the windshield was installed, simular to trying to patch a home roof leak, eventually water finds a path. Assuming purchased the correct gasket, one has grooves for the stainless steel trim, and the other gasket does not.
Agree with T/M, wonder if windshield is fully seated. May want to take to shop with experience in vintage glass installation and get an opinion. If movement, and no leak I would question how long it seal would last. Anyhow, had an urge to chime in and add my $.02, perhaps a member who has done the installation can provide some suggestions.
