Clamp on 6637 mod

I currently have a regular clamp installed on the filter and 4 inch exhaust fitting that I used. Still doesn't tighten like I want. For those that have used a T-bolt clamp, exactly what size are you using?

I've been considering doing jsut what you're talking about. Just measure the diameter of the outside of the intake tube.

Then, go to the Clampco website (Standard T-Bolt Band Clamps | Clampco Products) and order the t-clamp that fits that size range.

Before you install the new clamp, though, you'll have to trim some rubber ridges off the stock intake tube so the new clamp will sit flat on the surface.

Really? I'm using a regular SS worm-gear band clamp with no problems. I can't help with your question, but I'm curious why the band clamp isn't holding. That seems strange to me...

EDIT: I think he's talking about the clamp on the filter, not the intake tube, Pete. He's using a piece of exhaust between the two, so I'm assuming the stock clamp is hold the intake tube well enough.

Hmmm... can't really clamp the hard plastic element neck to the tube, but you CAN make some wraps with teflon tape and really snug the two together that way.

On the other hand, you can always "Gene" it together with some of that beautiful stuff called duct tape.

Be careful with just clamping the intake tube directly to the filter -- yes, it works. I ran that way for a long time, but I noticed I had to keep tightening the clamp on the tube. I found out that over time, the pressure of the clamp squeezes the filter neck down and it will loosen up. It was so much smaller after several months I had a hell of a time putting the 4" OD exhaust inside it when I finally got to it. The new filter I eventually replaced it with went right in, and the regular SS band clamp is holding it in place nicely. Have a look:

I have a early 99 that I want to do this mod to but my air intake tube does not fall the way IZZ351's does in his pic. Has anyone encountered my problem?

Yes, on some of the early 99's you have to use a piece of exhaust tubing 4 inch, with approximately 40 degree bend in it. I have heard that some of the early 99's also have a smaller intake tubing and require a piece of 3 inch to 4 inch coupling.

Yeah, the earlies have a short intake tube. Far as I know, it's the same ID, though. You'll need something like this:

It's a short piece of 4" exhaust with a 120* bend.

(Thanks to Travis, "Up_There" for the pic)

EDIT: You can also order the late intake tube. Check with "FTE_Parts_Guy", I believe that's his screen name...

EDIT2: Here's a link to his site. I'm sure he could hook you up with the correct part:

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like the next stop is to the muffler shop to bend a piece of 4inch!

Doubtful. Most muffler places can barely bend 3 inch, much less 4 inch. you will have to go to a truck shop that sells prebent or order one most likely.

I just finished mine yesterday on my 00' f350 and I used a regular clamp and used a 3" abs coupling for the two pieces to connect too. worked like a charm.
