Replacing colomn

Got a rebuilt holley 4160 on the way, new electric fuel pump, driveshaft issues being sorted out... but I'm unable to buy an aftermarket shifter for my stupid FMX trans, what I'm wondering is how big of a pain it is to swap in a steering colomn (mine is seized/rusted in neutral and shift tube is now broke). I'm sure I can get one at the junkyard, just wondering what i have to go through to pull it

I don't remember it being too difficult, hopefully the donor column has the same harness connector or you may have to re-use your old one.

The steering shaft coupling under the hood may be a bit rusty and stiff to pull apart. 4 bolts I think that hold the boot to the firewall and 2 that hold the column to the bottom side of the dash.

Have you tried to locate a tilt column? Tilt columns are a bit harder to come by but they are still out there.

Outside- Rag Joint (12 point 7/16" socket), Shift lever arm if present (large pry bar), 1973 - 1976? cowl bracket ring (1/2" or 9/16" socket) and 3 bolts for cowl bracket (3/8"? socket)

Inside- Bezel screws (phillips screw driver), Wire harnesses (tiny flat screw driver to save the plug clips) Cowl floor seal (3/8" socket and 3 to 4 bolts depending on year) Dash bolts (1/2" socket for 2 bolts)

Things to watch on the donor- shift lever and collar pin are in good shape. Bottom steering shaft bearing/seal mounting surfaces are missing from years of driving without the bearing and seal. Pretty much everything else can be bought new/aftermarket. You could even tear your column apart and put new in it if your bottom bearing mounting surface is good.

Before installing your good column, have a good look at your cab mounts, if they are
rotting and or rusty, this truck will eat this new column! I took a look at your gallery and
the truck in your album looked real nice, I was looking for the tell tell sign of the fender
starting to make the big gap between the door! I thought I would add my 2 cents just incase the truck you are talking about is not the pics I took a look at.

That 75 has a lot to offer, AC ,AT , 4V intake , and cleaning and fixing the things they
need is the fun part, that truck has a mint grill and front bumper, it want take much to
fix it up!

Yeah it wasn't bad for $200 a/c's unhooked though, trans is a overweight fmx, and the intake is too much for my application, but it's a start!

My dad used to rebuild carter and holley's back in the day, when the rebuilt 4160 comes in i'm gonna let him have at it... should be able to get $150 for it easy when he's done
