Changing the oil & filter is a pretty cheap thing to do at this point, might be worth a try.
The symptoms you described seems to indicate a cracked tube but you need be sure that you do indeed have a cracked tube.

In your 1st post you mentioned the engine oil pressure:
Do yo have a good oil pressure gauge? Not the one in the dash.
You need to be sure the LPOP is supplying oil to the HPOP.

Have you checked the HPOP during a no-start condition? The HPOP needs to
be low or out of oil if the tube is cracked but it could be a check valve (Short
Circuit) sticking too.
Remove the check valve to see if it's dirty, hanging up.

The engine needs to be pulled for all PSD's 2 and 4 wheel drive. But:

You can cut the cross member to drop the pan. About 4-6 hours the first
time around.

A update on the problem, it was not what we thought it was. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

It turns out that there is a high pressure oil line on the right hand side of the motor, located on the head back by the turbo charger that was loose; it was showing just a faint leak of oil that had gotten a little worse. It did not leak enough to think that the reason the truck would not start was from this problem as it was only a few drips. I tightened the fitting maybe a quarter turn, leak stopped but better yet there was a instant increase in oil pressure by ten pounds both at a idle and at higher speeds. The truck now starts every time and it does not matter at what angle the truck is parked, also oil pressure is instant, before the fitting was tightened it took a few seconds for it to make the gauge move when started. To the experts here on the board please list the fitting I tightened, I will post a picture if needed to help clarify so that if anyone else has a similar problem you guys can help them out. I plan on taking some pictures and putting the truck up for sale in the classifieds here on the boards. I already had to replace this truck. I now have a 02 F-350 powerstroke, 4X4<o></o>

Thanks for your help guys....Bob

I have a 97 F-350 200,000 plus miles; the truck runs great pulls strong. If I park the truck facing up hill or move the truck just a few seconds after starting the engine runs for a few minutes then dies. For me to start the truck again I need to tow it in order to build up oil pressure before it will start. Bases on what I am seeing it appears that if I move the truck quick or have it facing up hill that some how it is being starved for oil, and some sensor is telling the injection pump to shut off. I have 20 psi at a idle warm and 40 plus while over 1300 rpms I have taken the truck to an injection specialist he sold me new injectors saying mine were weak, while the truck runs better it still has the same problems. I have racked my brain over this one. If I park the truck facing down hill or level or wait until I have oil pressure I have no problem. The fuel does not have air in it, I have been down the path of fuel filter sucking air thinking this was the problem.
