Shifter problem 74 F-100 Auto

I used my truck this morning, came back and parked it. I had a problem once that it did not want to go into park. It went to the position of park, but was in reverse. I went out later to go somewhere else and it would not come out of park. The shifter moves but the linkage at the bottom of the column don't. You can reach under the hood and shift it through the gears. I felt down at the neutral switch and it was moving at that point. Is this something I can fix or will I need to go the the local Pull-A-Part and get another column?

C5TZ7343A .. Bushing & Insulator Kit / Available from Ford.

MSRP: $16.32 // FTEpartsguy.com price: $11.75

The selector lever at the bottom of the column under the hood has one bushing and plastic insulator. When these parts go bad, the shift lever hangs up.

You can move the lever manually by hand, but not by the shift lever.

Replacing these parts should solve the problem.

It's probably the collar part that your shifter attaches to. I have cracked 2 of those in my 75 since I bought it in 92. The inside part breaks away from the outer part. You can buy a new one for about $20. I bought my last on on ebay for less, but I bet the parts stores sell it also. You could check rockauto too.

My shift lever isn't hung. It just doesn't do anything. I can move it and feel the lever at the neutral switch move. It's just that nothing happens at the bottom end of the column.

I finally got the column out and discovered that the problem was a broken collar. It was letting the shaft slip up far enough to slip out of the lever at thew bottom of the column.
Thanx Dirt racer. Dennis Carpenter wants $70. I checked rockauto and found it for a little over $21.
Thanx again for the help guys.

I did a search for it on his site and didn't come up with anything.
I have ordered it from rockauto. It was less than $29 including shipping.
