Shifter Question
my Column shifter is really not the smoothest operating piece in my Excursion. Its hard to move and the lock into gear selection is very sloppy. I was thinking about building a custom center console and mounting a floor shifter into it, and eliminate the column shifter. can anyone tell me if I will run into any problems if I'm not using the column? like is it tied in to the computer to tell it if is in a gear, of the hold brake to shift from park thing. I was just gonna leave the column in park, remove the handle from the column shifter and relocate the overdrive button. will I have any issues if the column is always in park?

I had symptoms similar to yours, I tightened the screws underneath on the column. If you search the forum for "loose shifter" you will find several results on what the common repair is on these excursions.
