What Steering Column Did you use?

I have a 48 f1.I have a 1972 ford truck column I'm planning on using in it.I just wondered what everyone else used & how much work it took to make it work, and how you mounted it to the floor. My column came put of a 1972 4X4 w/4 speed tranny. It is not a tlit wheel but looks like it will work fine.I just have to move the hanging mount and make a floor mount.

I used a tilt column from 1978 Chevy van. I had to redo the top mount because the column is bigger dia. I just made a bottom mount. My problem is I want to use the column shift to run an auto transmission, but I have the original brake pedal and I believe I will have problems with the two interfering. Lokar makes a cable type column shifter assy that I think will solve the problem. Dave

I have a early 70's 4 speed pickup column that I plan on using. It does have the tilt. I will have to make the brackets and I want to connect it to a toyota PS box. We are still trying to figure out how to make it work.

Using a tilt column from a 88 BroncoII. Used the flange that was attached to the bottom at the firewall and a drop mount from a 50 model ****** Wagon at the dash.

Mine is a tilt column from an 89 S-10 Blazer. Made a mount for the firewall and dash. Used the steering wheel and installed a new switch because the keys were missing.

Mine is out of a 94 Caprice, it is the same coulmn as the GM truck unit but it had an air bag so you have to remove the clock spring and machine a spacer for it. They are about half the price of the truck or S-10 and I am cheap. I am using a coulmn shifter so I had to cut the shift tube and bearing end off and rotate it 90 degrees to clear the exhaust and brake pedal. I used an old aluminum conecting rod for the drop that I cut and tapped to accept 5/16" studs and used the stock mounting holes in the dash.

Lot of good ideas on columns.I may have to find a tilt column for my 48.I don't have the column mounted yet but it looked like it would work ok.I will have to see what angle it ends up at when all is said and done. They look great thanks guys.

I used a tilt column from an early 90's Jeep Cherokee, which jeep was purchasing from GM. standard GM wiring hookup, 30" long and readily available. It is a keyed column, if that matters to you.
