1952 Mercury Keys?

I only have one ignition key for my truck and that one is an aftermarket generic vareity.

The local hardware stores do not carry key blanks, and I am concerned that I might misplace my key someday.

1) Is it possible to get an authentic looking Mercury Key?

2) If no Merc key is available, what is a good source for a Ford or generic key blank?

Hi Jim,

They are on e-bay all the time. I'm not sure about the "Merc" keys, but I know you can get either plain Ford keys, or some fancy schmancy ones as well.

Just go to E-bay Motors then search in Parts and Accessories, Vehicle is Mercury, year (I did) 1948-1960, then when the page pops up (with 3000 items) go to the box on the left and type "key" in the keywords box.

Here's a few examples of what I found and the direct links:

eBay Motors: MERCURY 48 49 50 51 52 53 54 55 56 CREST KEY (item 330290922734 end time Dec-07-08 16:10:16 PST)

eBay Motors: Mercury 50's - 60's NOS Key Blanks (item 400013980508 end time Dec-07-08 17:32:00 PST)

eBay Motors: Vintage Ford Key Blanks 1952 - 1964 Lincoln Mercury (item 250329212742 end time Dec-20-08 15:50:06 PST)

There were alot to choose from!

They are also available from C&G Ford at:

http://www.cgfordparts.com/online.html
They are part number: BC 3685 A

Have fun shopping!

Julie!

Yep, all the restoparts houses have them.
They are usually like the ones in the bottom picture or on the C&G site I referenced.

They are usually a little cheaper from the parts places also.

Carpenter carries them as well.

And a great history and heritige to go with it!

To be honest,.. I would have mentioned LMC or one of the others earlier,
But didn't know for sure if they had them....so I kept my mouth(keyboard) shut...Then I see the responses...Good! Now your covered!

send it to me .... I'll keep it safe! PM me for address LoL!

Julies Cool F1 why did you feel the need to put the pics of them. Now I need to find the first or second one because they are so cool. It was very nice being ignorant of the keys available. Now just to make sure the first 2 Mercury keys are able to be used instead of the Ford V key on the bottom.

keys

I had a key made at Stewart & Bergen In Johnstown N.Y. 518-762-3181.It was a old time hardware store. The owner had died and the son took over as he was cleaning out the old store he found boxes of key blanks dating back to the 30s for all kinds of makes. He now runs the store out of a small shop behind his house. It might be worth a call.He made me keys from the lock as i had no key for him to copy.

Tee hee hee - the evil E-bay poster J!

There were all kinds of nice looking keys on E-bay. I have a couple for my 51 F1. All that little bling bling make this so much fun...don't you think!!!!
