First off our economy up here always lags behind the rest of the country, up or down. It's starting to go down hill and the Real Estate is starting to roll off. My sister is in Real Estate and that's what she says. As to jobs, the state employment agency is on line. Look here:

There is no other way for the numerous carbs you have tried to go bad, except for dirty fuel.
I'm thinking about putting this on both my trucks on my daily driver has a Holley electric pump on it, if I run this filter would it be the only inline filter I would need?
Also how dose it stack up to this brand? http://www.jegs.com/p/Perma-Cool/745089/10002/-1

I would say it is comparable. I like the Mercury ones because I am familiar with them. Merc used them, from the factory, on their large displacement engine, 454, 502 and 540 and now on their 496 CID engines and on their EFI engines and recommend them for all their outboards. I've run them on all my big trucks for decades. I only run one and have never had an fuel issue. Normally I replace the filter once a year But have gone up to two years. You can suck fuel thru them or run pump pressure thru them and they hold up fine.

IIRC Napa has one available thru their marine parts line for less money and works just as well.
