Stock Tire Question

Can anyone tell me anything about the stock General Ameritrack tires. I'd like to know what ply they are, if they are worth a crap, and what kind of warranty they got on them.
I am asking because I have had 2 flats so far on two different tires one that caused a blowout after I aired it back up(I had to drive it flat about 2 miles). Both times the flat just came on all of a sudden, one tire was a nail puncture, the nail later fell out it was patched and is trouble free thus far.
The other I was just driving along and my wheel started pulling the left and I heard blubble blubble, and I got out and my tire was almost totally flat, I had to limp it back into town(2 miles), aired it up drove 10 feet and boom bye bye tire.
I really can't afford to buy new tires right now I was hoping these tires were pretty good, but so far the only thing good about them is tread life they still look pretty fresh at 47k. So is my problem a freak accident or do these tires just suck?

Are you the original owner of this truck? If so,look in your owners manual book and there is a booklet on the tires that come on Ford trucks and the coverage and warranties on them. Also,in the owners manual under the trucks warranty section there is a section on how many miles Ford will replace defective tires at,and the pro rated information.

I've never had much luck with General tires especially on a heavy truck like these, the '97 I used to own had them and after 19,000 miles I had two of the tires get a bulge in the sidewall so I replaced them with something better. If you run a search on here you will see lots of people have complaints about the stock General tires(alot of people call them Americraps) with 47000 on them I'm sure their out of any warranty they might have had. If it was me I would try to find a way to buy new tires and save yourself alot of headaches.

the blow out you experianced was due to driving on it flat. i use to work in a tire shop, i have seen blow out like this alot, what happens when you drive on a flat tire you put alot of strane on the inside of the sidewall and actully start peeling off rubber off making it very thin and week, it also breaks the belts in the sidewall. when you put air in the tire the tire would have been hot expanding the air so you probily ended up over inflating the tire. so it wouldnt take much to blow the tire, general tires are just cheap tires so they dont offer the best ride or traction, just a cheap on road tire. i wouldnt run out and change the tires seeing it can be expensive. just keep checking them for damage, exccesive wear and pressure, seems like your driving threw a construction site or some where where nails etc are lying around.
also check around the tire shops and see if someone can hook you up with a decent set of take off's

Yeah I know that driving on it flat is what made it blow out, but I didn't have much choice. By the way the stock jack is a joke, I will have to upgrade that as well. I really need to put my toolbox back on my truck. 17 inch tires are expensive, is there anybody that makes a 16 inch rim in our bolt pattern? That would make things a little cheaper.

From everything I've read here, 17 is the smallest wheel that will fit.

17" is the smallest you can put on because of the size of the rotors. I agree with 98greensi, check with some tire/rim shops to see if they have any take offs, or check on craigslist, sometimes you can find some new or near new tire/wheel combos really cheap.

Tire info General Tire * The Tires * Original Equipment

Warranty if those are the original tires to the truck, the warranty is detailed in the owners manual package. If they were purchased at a tire store or the dealer, they are subject to the tire manufacturers warranty.
