Thinking of buying an '06 6.0 can anyone tell me likes and dislikes

Tell him to get an Oasis report (available at the top of this Forum). In my opinion owning a Diesel truck is also a hobby. I enjoy "tinkering" with my truck as much as possible. If your friend isn't up to performing maintenance and giving the truck more attention than a regular gasser, I would recommend he not purchase it. That's just my opinion. Back in June 2007 I purchased a 01/04 build 2004 truck and it's great! I have had a couple of issues (Headgaskets, Egr/oil Cooler) but now I am more educated (thank you FTE) and have put some time and well spent money into preventing anymore issues. It's been over 15,000 miles since the issues and the truck runs excellent...again... thanks to this forum!

I like my 05 (see sig). It will run silly circles around my old 97 psd. I have also had 1 major problem (hpop) replaced under warranty. So it was no big deal. Truck runs great and it's not for sale. Great tow rig.

I own an 06 6.0 38k on it and no issues at all runs great and pulls great. I keep the oil changes and regualr maint. up to date. The only thing I see wrong with the 6.0 is these folks that buy a tuner and over do it with the programming and their foot. 2 other guys i know in town have the same model truck as mine and they stay in the shop because of those reasons. But i absolutely love my truck.

I've had my 04 for a yr now & I love it. Its got more power than my 95 psd had with a 80 hp chip. I have a hypertech 3 stage tuner that I seldom use. This truck is strong enough stock to tow its manufacturers limit. I can put it on the 100 stage & blow the doors off my friends gas rigs . I don't mean stock rigs either. Many are heavily modded & they hate my truck since its only mod is a tuner.I plan to keep mine many yrs.I don't drive it much since I have a company van for work. I do plan to add head studs,4 inch turbo back exhaust & sct tuning as my money allows. The 6.0 has a bad rep but I also think people using too much tuning without building the motor by adding head studs gave the motor this rep. Several companies have built parts to fix the problems on this motor & it can be built into a 500 hp motor that is very reliable. I do hate the turbo lag. I quickly forget it once it gets the boost up though because once it does its one bad *** motor. Power brake it up to 1500 rpm & then floor it. You don't get any turbo lag then. You smoke the tires till you get off it.

Good:
1)Super Duty = Sex on wheels. Best looking truck, period. (IMO)
2)Enough power to get the job done and then some.
3)Aftermarket products galore.
4)Ford now offering an extended 200k mile warranty.
5) W/ the right tunes and mods - mpg in the 18+ range. pending driving habbits. Making this a daily driver as well.
6) Safety in many forms.
Bad:
1) depending on build date. Problematic at best - pain in the *** at worst
2)Expensive to maintain.
3)Expensive to repair (out of warranty)
4)wrong tunes/driving habbits = less than desirable fuel mileage.
The 6.0 is a masterfull peice of machinery. It WANTS to work. It needs to work. IF you're going to get grocerys and not work the truck, you'd be better off with a gasser or possibly look for an older 7.3 or heck, even *gasp* a cummings.
As was stated, get an OASIS report and post it here. There's enough of us to decifer that report and steer you in the right direction.
Edit: My 05' (9-04') Fx4 cc lwb 350 Lariat has been problem free since the Turbo @ 12k miles. I'm about to turn the clock to 70k and I couldn't be happier.

my friend at work has a 06 and he told me that the block was a 2 piece. it was leaking but was covered under waranty, and mine is a 04 and the only problem i see after 76,000 miles is a oil leak at the intake from the cooler, but being a truck mech , dont have the time to fix my own stuff.
