C6 Swap to AOD/AOT Is there something I need to know?

I took out my C6 in a 1987 F150 and replaced it with a 1990 AOD/AOT transmission. I used the AOD/AOT torque converter. It bound everything up. So I took it apart again. I then put in the flex plate from the AOD/AOT. It bound up again. I can't spin the motor or transmission. Seperated both spin fine. Anybody have any idea why it might be binding up?

Make sure the TC is fully seated in the tranny before you mate it to the engine and don't forget the aluminum seperator plate that goes between the engine and tranny. With the TC correctly inserted the nuts that fasten it to the flexplate should actually pull the TC out of the tranny slightly when you snug them up. If you don't have this kind of room between these 2 pieces the TC is not correctly inserted and/or you have the wrong flexplate. An AOD flexplate will have "AOD" stamped onto a flat surface somehwere.

I took the spacer plate, flexplate, torque converter and transmission off of a 1990 5.0 and put it on a 1987 5.0. The torque converter has wear or friction marks on it from the 6 flexplate bolts. These were there when I took it apart from the 1990 engine. If I remember correctly all the transmission bolts were loose when I pulled it apart. Is this supposed to have a thicker spacer plate than that thin tin plate? The torque converter seems to be fully seated in the transmission, however it did not pull out of the transmission at all when bolting to the flexplate. Clearly, the torque converter is lacking some space, either at the engine mounting bolts or at the transmission input shafts. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Are the aod flexplate the only one u can use with the aod? I wana install this 74 302 in my truck with aod and i seen at summit that the aod and c4 had same bolt pattern. I think the t.c is not in all the way. I have had this happen before. If u cant spin the t.c with the transmission bolted to block and NOT bolted to the flexplate, u have issues between them.

well, you need to use a flexplate that is balanced for the motor. they do make 28 and 56 oz AOD flexplates.

6 flexplate bolts? The AOD flexplate is fastened to the crank with 6 bolts, but the TC is attached to the flexplate with 4 studs. Are you sure you have an AOD tranny?
