Truck stalling when trailer brakes engaging
New to the site, and afriend told me this wasthe place to go for any problem.
I have a 96 PSD, and normally runs just fine, but when i hook up my dump trailer, and the brake controller is over the 2.0 setpoint the truck will stall on me. The problem is pretty constant, but ince in a blue moon it will do fine. I'm talking maybe one out of 30 starts or so. Any help is appreciated this problem is killing me!!!

I have the same problem and started a thread on this about 2 months ago that went 2+ pages. The consensus then was also the CPS. My situation is identical to yours....only stalls when the trailer brakes are being used. Its not the controller because I have tried 2 different units in the factory connection, and even used the controller in another vehicle and it was fine.
So it has to be either the CPS or a bad connection/short in the light/brake connector under the bumper. I have both replacement peices and will start with replacing the connector socket first. Then I will replace the CPS.
But for now you can do what I do, if your load isn't too bad disconnect the controller and go without trailer brakes Or put the truck in nuetral before you start braking and keep your foot on the accel to about 1500rpm to keep her running during stops (pain in the a$$)

Works for me, but you will beat me to it for sure as my truck is seldom used so I doubt I get to the plug or CPS anytime soon But I will definitely be curious to hear if the CPS is the fix when you get it done.
Also, anything you can share on how to change the CPS when you are done would be appreciated....easy, hard, any tricks, etc....
