the naysayers claim it doesn't. they also claim it doesn't affect MPG/HP. Maybe they are a big sugar pill. But I for one am happy about the $279 I spent on my Volant. Reduced some of my throttle lag and I swear there is a nasty cranky old big block 460 under the hood when I floor it.

Plus I save $32.99 per Motorcraft_5.4 _filter by being able to clean my current RE-USEABLE one. Figure it'll pay for the CAI after about 2.5 yrs (3 filters/yr). I think it's about 1 or 2 more filters before my initial "investment" pays for itself.
I totally agree on the reusable aspects of the air filters...I have a K&N drop in on my truck. First thing I did? Cleaned it and reoiled it a little lighter than the factory oiled one...That thing had oil dripping off it when I set it in the sun for a few minutes. No wonder some people get clogged MAF's. No mileage change for better or for worse, but it will pay for itself in 3 filters.

A good CAI does have benefits; however all of the big brands do cause the engine to run a little lean I have seen it when tuning. If you want the best performance from a CAI then a tuner will do that. If you want to slap on a CAI only you will not see much in the way of performance, throttle response might be a little better but that is about it.

With the stock intake my truck ('05 Fx4) and the factory tune put down 200 RWHP
with Volant and factory tune 201 RWHP
With Volant and custom tune 93Oct 245 RWHP
With AirforceI 3-1/2 custom tune 93Oct 257 RWHP

Big difference in performance I could not believe the difference but it was right there on the dyno in front of me.

Yeah I had been a member of this board in the past, although I didn't really post a whole heck of alot. My old user name was 06BLK-F150, but I forgot my password since it had been so long. I figured I'd just create a new account and start over with the username I most frequently use anyways.

I love my AEM brute force with a dry filter... wash it with simple green when doing an oil change and you are ready to go....
