Volant Intake System

Would the Volant system fit on a 4.2L? On the website it says that you can get the kit with the cool air box for the 4.6 and 5.4's, but not the 4.2's. They offer the kit without the box for the 4.2's. Would the one with the box fit on the 4.2's? Does the cool air box actually make an impact?

co;d air dois make a diffrence cold air and cold fuel makes more
power alonge with more air intake just look at some of the
drag racers have a box to fill with ice to cool the fuel off before it
hits the intake
unfortionally not so good for evry day drivers
as for the air intake it helps you may be able to custom fab.
one if you cant find one
id check 4wheelparts.com even call them they might be able to
find you one

my advice would be to build your own intake...............way, way cheaper and it is probably more effective since you can route your own piping. All you need to spend money on is the Filter ($50 or so), the piping (ABS should do the trick pretty well), and then just some clamps, silicone, glue, and things of that sort. Trust me, you can build a way better intake yourself for at least $100 cheaper.

But the question is, where would I route it to? Where would be the best place to pull in cool air from outiside the engine compartment and stay out of the way of eveything else? Would this create the same amount of hp gain as an aftermarket intake system?

My first comment is this..........what can an aftermarket system do that you can't. All an intake system is, is a filter, and some fancy schmancy chrome piping. If you want it to look nice, then just buy some chrome piping.

As for where to route it, if you're standing in front of your truck, the best place would be down to the right of the block in that big open space. pretty much just point the filter straight down and it will work fine.

As for hp gain, I would think that a custom system would carry an even higher hp gain than a pre-made. This is because you can customize it how you want to get the best out of your intake.

I agree with these guys build your own. The one thing to note is that if you are driving in conditions where the water or snow will get pretty high up on the vehicle you will want to mount the intake higher. If not your engine will be suffocated when you get in these extreme positions.
