Cool HELP!!! My truck is down

I have a 2004 F350 4WD, 6.0L. I was driving today pulling a 4000 pound trailer and floored it to beat some guy so I could get over. About 3rd gear and 2500 RPM my truck lost all power and was making a loud air pushing sound. The Turbo wouldn't kick up. I slowed down and at 40 MPH and my truck started to shake really bad and it wouldn't want to get up again. I pulled over and shut it off. When I started it up 30 seconds later it got up and went for almost 200 feet and then it was back at running like crap again. I ran it another mile and then my truck died and wouldn't start. I called a tow truck and he towed it. When I got to the dealership I rolled it off and it started after a few seconds and a pump to the gas. I was power braking it and couldn't get it to do the same thing. It seemed like it was all there. I'm not sure if it will only do it under load? My coolant cap is not leaking and no other visible signs. The one problem I here is that when I spool up my turbo to 3 grand and then let off it makes a wierd sucking sound like its collapsing an intake hose?????????????? Also I changed my fuel filters yesterday on the frame and under the hood. Everything was fine I drove 250 miles. When it was sitting there broke down it was fine, but when he pulled it up the incline on the rollback it leaked a lot out of the frame fuel filter. When I pulled it off at the shop it didn't leak a drop? Sorry its long, but please....I need your help. I can't make it happen again until I try it with a trailer....anyone have any ideas, turbO?

Since you said it was making an air pushing sound when you were under load it makes me think you either blew an intercooler hose or maybe one side of the intercooler itself came apart.

If this happened you would not be getting much if any boost to the engine so check out those items closely!

It seems wierd that the truck would start right up after being towed. It must be getting fuel somehow? Plus why when I let off the throttle does the sucking sound occur like something is collapsing? Its got me. I'm going to hook up to a trailer tomorrow and pull it and try and get it to happen again with the computer hooked up to it. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check out.

If you saw that you had a fame rail fuel filter leak then you need to change the filter again. It will only leak if it is a bad gasket, or installed improperly, or if seeing excessive pressure somehow (ie restricted flow perhaps). Non-OEM fuel filters can result in restricted flow - do not use them. From your description, plugging seems unlikely, but for the record was it a Ford or Racor fuel filter?

I personally would not keep driving the truck until you find the problem, especially under heavy load. Just because the fuel leak from it stops under certain circumstances does not mean you have eliminated the risk of further damage by continuing to operate it.

IMHO, by running this way, you will either suck air into the fuel system (which can eventually ruin injectors) OR expect have a lack of fuel supply when at high fuel supply demand which is hard on the fuel system AND expensive (leaking fuel).

my bet is that you blew the intercooler flex tube off...theyre blue
rubber hoses that connect the intercooler to the turbo charger...

no verdict

I picked it up today and Ford told me to drive it until it breaks again. I hooked up to my trailer and floored it everywhere I went and not once did it give me problems again. The intercooler tube is tight and solid, no other wierd noises now, drives the same and no fuel leak. Fords advice means I get stranded again next time I drive it two hours probably which is unacceptable, but I"m lost. They suggested a dirty turbo? It wouldn't stall my truck?

Have you run an OASIS report on the truck? Was the injector wire harness ever replaced?

Thank you, I will check that out...However it did not just stall it was running rough and then stalling out, more of a lack of fuel or air type of problem rather than an all out, quit/fail electrical shut off the truck problem, but I will check out and see what I find...Thanks alot for your help.

So I got the truck back from Ford today, turns out the Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor was bad. It was reading 1.5 volts and was supposed to be at .8 volts. We'll see if they're right and I paid $400 for a good cause.

I thought the latest ECM calibrations stopped using the EBP sensors?

Yes, but only on the '03 and early build '04's (like mine). After that, everything changed, and the EBP sensor was factored back into the monitored equation, no longer being inferred based on the MAP, MAF and other (?) inputs.
