99-2003 F250 gear selecter arm end broken
Hello all
I own a fleet of trucks, all fords, and on the f250's in model years 99-03 I CONSTANTLY see the plastic end cap (or even the entire plastic end of the selecter arm itself) break off. This is the entire piece where the OD switch is mounted.
I have seen this same condition in many other f250 and 350 trucks as well, so I'm assuming I'm not the only one seeing this problem.
a) does anyone happen to have the part numbers for the gear selector ends (both pieces) or even better, the actual ford exploded view diagram of it?
b) anyone done anything other than just replacing them with OEM parts? as many of these as I've seen broken, I'd assume someone HAS to have come up with a better design?
any and all help would be appreciated!
thanks
Rian

These are the only parts available inre to the shift lever that I can see in the parts catalog illustration.
I'm using the Ford parts catalog on microfiche slides, so I can't post a pic of the column, where the lever is shown.
Here's the reference: 1990/2002 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog / Illustration: Section A72 / Page 42.
You might consider contacting FTE sponsor Ed Olson @ ftepartsguy.com (Parr Ford-Bremerton WA) for assistance.
NOTE: REMOVE the hyphens from the Ford part numbers if typing them into ftepartsguy's site.
Type 'em like this: 5c3z7210aaa / f58z7g550a / f2uz7a214a

I hate to bring up a 3 year old thread but this just recently happened to my truck. I also have a few Ford vehicles and noticed in our newer E series vans the shifter is very similar to what is in our trucks. The only difference is the actualy plastic end is a little shorter which seems like it would last longer because of less leverage? I can't find any part numbers to compare them too but it would be interesting to know if this is a better design. Mine broke because it is a plow truck so it gets yanked on quite a bit during plow season.
