stereo in stock 56

Im wondering if putting a stereo in my stock truck running the 30 amp generator is going to be able to run a cd player stereo and 4 speakers successfully, im not going all the way with amps or anything like that just want to have a simple stereo and speakers.

Getting ready to start the ol' gal tomorrow!

Oh but please don't touch the dash. mount the new style radio under the dash with a plastic mount made especially for that. I have pics if u need.

My suggestion is to mount it in the glove box, as for power requirements you will be fine with just a plain CD/am/fm radio and speakers......... as long as you do try and run all those amps, sub-amps, woofers, power amps, etc etc

Cutting holes in the pristine 56 dash is a definate no-no!! Ever see a 56 for sale and a sunroof or big holes in dash? I am sure mounting in glovebox or even under dash is nicer......JMHO.................Bill

I bought a stock radio for my '54 but sold it since I could not get up the nerve to cut a hole in my dash...

i'm thinking about getting one of these (i'm told it will fit in the factory location) and mount a CD changer in the glovebox or behind the seat.

maybe this one (i know not factory, but heck the factory AM in my 78 drives me crazy)

I have mine hanging below the dash, there were enough holes under there to pick from after all these years without having to drill or cut anything..

Question

Had mine mounted in the glove box-out of site and no one ever bothered it or new it was there, however I discovered that reaching the controls to adjust the volume or change the station ect.. could be and adventure when driveing down the road at say 50 mph. You might want to give it a try before you mount it permanatly. My next one will go under the dash. Jush speaking from experiance. Mark

I also put mine in the glove box, I can push the door slightly and switch between CD/radio/off however, it's not that way on purpose.

Red face

On my 1st 1956 F100 that I got from my Dad,back in 1974 had no radio. I could not get myself to cut any holes and I figured reaching clear-across the cab to adjust ***** would be a tragedy in the making. Especially for a teenager and with his buddies riding with him,as they would adjust it to suit them.
I decided to install it on the door driver side and it was huge am-fm/8track....I mouted it up and down and that way controlled the music and my riders had to listen to my tunes.
If you hit a bump or my elblw hit it--yikes!! stupid kid in those days....I since have thought things out better.

Get a cheap stereo and a 10 disc cd changer and mount them behind the seat. Then you can get a Serious Sattelite unit that has suction cups for either the dash or windshield and then you have the best of both worlds Just a thought.
