Take the trim off the steering wheel itself and the steering column. That will allow you to see the four small hard steel bolts that hold the steering wheel on. I found it easier to to turn the wheel 1/2 turn to move bottom bolts to the top. When your done, the Cruise switches are held in place by very small screws. The Ford dealer will sell both switches and the harness in one kit. I don't know what the switches cost is because I bought my Escape used and repairing a broken cruise switch was part of the purchase agreement. The used car dealer purchased the switches for me.

How to remove 2006 Escape steering wheel

I can't get the steering wheel off my 2006 Escape. Following directions, remove plastic panels and loosen pinion bolt. The wheel now flops around very loose but when I pull on it there is no give. Any ideas?

Go to your local auto parts store and 'rent' a steering wheel puller. That and a ratchet make it way too easy.
