Exhaust Mod Questions

Alright, so I have a few questions. First of all I have a 1995 F350 with the powerstroke obviously. I was looking into exhaust options. I have found a couple of things. I don't exactly like the sound of a straight pipe on this truck but I would like it to be a little bit more free flowing and a little bit louder. I know that I can get a good exhaust system for around $500, but I was looking into a different option. On puredieselpower.com I found a cat delete pipe for $57 and a 3in turbo downpipe for $110. I was wondering that with the combination of those two pieces, how close I could get to the sound, and performance of a full exhaust from a large manufactuer like Banks, or Bullydog. I know it can't be that close to it but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this kind of setup. I would just plan on running the stock muffler. Thanks guys.

I got a 3" downpipe and a cat delete pipe attached to the rest of the stock system. At idle it is alittle louder out of the tailpipe. But when you get on it, it barks pretty good, so im told. There is no/very little turbo whistle out of the tailpipe just v8 throatyness. The turbo whistle comes from my 6637 filter.

With a downpipe and cat delete you will have gotten rid of the two biggest restriction. The stock muffler is actually very free flowing. If you not looking for loud exhuast I think you are right on track!

If you want to run a major exhaust mfr I'm totally happy w/ my aFe 4in turbo back. The dp is 3 - 3.5 -4 and the rest 4in all the way back. They give you enough pipe to delete the muff and kitty if you want. It installs super easy and has all the hardware you need. I got it from DPPI for $367 including a $50 double wall tapered stainless tip and shipping. The tip had a very small dent so they refunded an additional $30. It has very smooth bends and clears the axle well. It sounds good at idle and barks like crazy when you womp it.

That's what I did, and its a bit louder in the cab but I like the stock muffler sound. MPG is better by, .5-1mpg, a little more smell and maybe smoke when warming up...I feel like I can make 7,500lbs fly.

agreed, let that baby sing, louder the better. i know sound has nothing to do with performance but i just love the sound of any large loud engine.

the stock diameter pipe doesnt sound too good open pipe, you need to step up in size to get it sounding good. 4 inch sounds nice, 5 inch is sweet, and 6 inch dual stacks was freakin sweet!
