I believe that in 93 there were two motor options 7.3 NA or 7.3 turbo. Then in 94 it was only a 7.3 turbo but it could be that they had both as an option for both years. But yes a stock 7.3 turbo IDI was made. The guys in the IDI section would know better than I.
The 94' in my sig. was a NA motor that I added a turbo to. They made all three engines in 94'. The NA motor, the turbo idi, and the powerstroke. The idi turbo actually made more power then the powerstroke in this year, but was turne ddown by ford so that it did not out do the powerstroke on its debue. TJ you are right they did offer the NA and the turbo idi in 93'. I think to get a NA motor in 94' it had to be special ordered, but not sure about that part.
PS. I loved that motor 254,000 when I sold it and ran like new. Easy to work on too!!!
The PSD was a mid model year change so the early 94's were IDI's and the lates were PSD's. The late 94's PSD still have the old "Turbo Diesel" badge on the fender!
They didn't have more power from Ford that way. But Blake said they were turned down. Never heard of that but I don't know much about those trucks. The turbo model only had 5 more HP and 35 ft lbs of torque than the NA model http://www.FTEs diesel forums.com/fa...q/engcomp.php3
Thanks..the 94 we had at work was an ok truck it was a one ton but by no means did it have the power of a 94 powerstroke it also had a problem with Tranny,s it was automatic with OD and went threw several tranny,s while we had it but the Engine never had a problem

that's because, contrary to popular belief, a turbocharger is so a diesel engine does not suffer performance degredation due to low atmospheric pressure (it'll run the same in the rain & snow as it does when it's 80* & sunny out; it'll run the same at 5,000 ft elevation as it does at sea level)
Well a turbo diesel won't run the same as sea level as it will at 5000 ft though. It will have less power and more smoke at higher elevations. Also a turbo is so that more fuel can be added to the fire to make more power. More fuel needs more oxygen.
