I have a '90 F-150, 5 litre, manual trans.
Battey and cables are one week old, starter is 6 months.
Truck is used for work so there is a lot of starting. About 1/3 times I have to dump clutch to get it to start. Should I look to battery or starter for problem? Or maybe somewhere else.

have you checked all connections?.

 

1st id go to your parts store and have the battery tested, if thats good, then Id look into the cables. I didnt have the ground one setup right on my truck. Ford has the wierd 1 peice ground that connects to the frame and block with 1 cable. I had to make mine with 2 cables. Give them a ck and see.

 

Did you check the clutch/starter interlock switch ?? I suspect that it is going open intermittently--and only when the truck will not start. Try bypassing the switch and see if the intermittent no-start still occurs.
