Thoughts on a Ford Extended Warranty (ESP)

I have a 2004 F150 Lariat that has warranty to the end of 2007 (2 more days). I have had problems with the front hubs and solenoid since I purchased the truck used in 2006. I am considering the "Powertrain" ESP (Extended Service Plan) or extended warranty and wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this matter? Anyone purchased an ESP? Where would be a good place to buy one in Canada other than the local dealership? What about the ESP that is one up from the Powertrain ESP?

my suggestion is stay away from the warranty i had it and it would not pay for nothing it was a waste of money for me and i have not bought a warranty for over 25 years and i thought i would give it a chance and all i did was fight and argue constantly over my coverage ... this is my opinion...i ended up doing all the repairs my self on all 3 of my fords ,,,,1 time i had to send a letter from an attorney to get a reimbursement because the dealer stated that the esp plan did not cover a part and labor

I had the 100K ESP on my '01 Expy and used it a few times before I traded her in. Paid like $1500 for it and probably used every cent of it. The only time the dealer refused to cover something under ESP was for a split rear windshield washer line over the rear cargo area. Every time I hit the washer it would spray onto the back seat.

I used it to have some lock actuators replaced, rear wiper replaced and some front suspension work just to name a few.

I bought a Ford ESP for my '03 Expedition to extend the 3/36 warranty. Don't recall which package I purchased but paid about $1200 for it and never used it. Traded the Ex recently with 105,000 miles for a 06 F150 with 36K. Trying to decide now if I should do same for this truck. I do put a lot of miles on fast and being self-employed a big $$$ repair could be a problem. Of course, hindsight says I wish I had not done it on the Expedition. It proved to be a waste of money. A real dilemma?

Highly Recommend purchasing a Ford Extended Warrantee. I purchased mine last summer prior to a long trip out west. When I got back I noticed a ticking in the engine. Took it to Ford where they estimated repairs at $3500.00. I will pay $100.00 deductible and that's all. A good investment if you intend to keep the vehicle for a length of time.

We have the ESP on our Taurus. Waste of money. Have put three radios in at $100 deductible each time and it still doesnt work right, they said it is probably a wiring issue and the warranty may or may not cover it they wouldnt know till they determined the problem. The car also vibrates at highway speeds. Took it in to have it looked at under waranty and they found "nothing wrong" said it was bad tires. We put new tires on the car and it still does it. I think it is a bent/warped axle shaft and they dont wanna pay to fix it.

Some say go for it, some say it's a waste of money. I've lost money on one vehicle with the extended warranty and on another it paid for itself a few times over.

Question comes down to, do you feel comfortable handing over a thousand or what ever to pay for the coverage (read what's not covered very carefully) or are you find with handing over that same thousand for some repair.

And you will find dealers who will screw you out of covered repairs, but those dealers will screw you regardless of coverage or not.

Flip a coin....

I just paid $2300 for a 7 year 100,00 mile esp prem on the 2005 Crew that we just bought. I did get a deal due to me previously working at the dealer, but I still would have bought it if not for that. It's just like full coverage insurance, life insurance, health insurance, disibility insurance, You may not NEED it, but when you do you'll be damn glad you have it.

I had the ESP on my '02 Ranger and it not only paid for itself, I also got a chunk of the money back I paid for the warranty when I tradded the Ranger in for my '06 F150. I also bought a ESP plan for the F150.

I am at 33600 miles and considering the Ford ESP. Does anyone know where to or who to purchase one from at a fair price?

I've had 2 ESPs, one on a Taurus that paid for itself twice over at least and one on a '99 F150 that I never used. Took the truck in for some tranny work I had been putting off and it expired the day before. They wouldn't honor it. When they expire, they expire!

Buy the ESP premium care, it gives you one simple paragraph of what is not covered. I cant understand anybody saying, "dont buy it its a waste of money I never used it" Thats no different than somebody saying they are cancelling their life insurance because they never used it

Even when the warranty is over or you have a beef about something else the first question Ford will ask... Did you buy ESP? Yes? You go over here please, No? you go over there and we'll get back to you when we are ready to say no. Do your maintenance at a Ford dealer or keep your records and its all good
