how do you remove door glass on a 99?

I want to replace the drivers side door glass in my 99 ext cab. Found one at a junkyard for $30 (does that sound right?). The glass seems to be rivited to the bottom track. I dont see any good way to remove the glass short of grinding out the rivits. And since its out in a junkyard I have no way of getting power to it. Any ideas? Also, what years does the door glass interchange? I keep getting different answers every time I ask these things. Some said 98-02 and one said 95-04...... is there an online parts interchange website?

Ok, since I am not getting any direct answers.... Does that mean the ONLY way to remove and replace door glass on these is to grind out the rivets? And for that matter, it looks like there are 2 ways to put it back in, one is more rivets and two would be to bolt it in. Any suggestions on which is better from someone that has done this?

The motorcraft website has a part interchange window you can submit the (fact.) p/ns in.
I also heard the '98-02/03 windows willl interchange.

I had to remove my windows also... but mine had bolts. The only way I remember that is b/c of the tight spot that my ratchet didn't want to fit into.

Imo... I would prep your original track now for drill'n tapping or nut'n bolts. Then use a small cold chesiel and center punch (and hammer) to pop the donor's rivets out (since you can't get power to the location). M5/M6 (10-32;1/4-20) should be more than sufficient.
Good Luck!

I actually have not looked at mine, but the donor truck was a 98 I think with the rivets. I found a 2001 across town in a cheap junkyard that I want to try to get the stuff out of it tomorrow.

got one today out of a 2001. It had rivits too. Started out using my cordless drill and a grinding stone. The would have worked, but was very slow going. Finally ended up using a small drill bit and drilling 3 holes in the rivet and then moving up and up with the bit size. Guess I could have taken pics for those that dont know what we are talking about. That did it. Found the secret to removing the glass is unbolting the front channel rail as that allows the window to move forward a little bit and then pivot out.

yeah, could have. Dont know if I have ever seen a battery operated dremil. I would like a dremil for some other projects, may have to look into it. Even a cutoff wheel for my drill would have been more than what I had!
