I know plenty of people who love to shoot but dont like to hunt (macy8 is one) and noone has ever said use the gun on yourself. You dont like animals killed and I can appreciate that. Like I said in my post...Its not needless killing. I kill a couple deer a year for FOOD. I said "I dont kill hundreds of deer a year just to throw the meat away. I asked a question about deer rifle caliber. If you dont hunt or shoot or have any valuable input then why bother commenting.

Not that I care but I see you are from/in NY. Why are you in the SC boards? get lost?

You don't venture into a SC gun discussion on a Ford Truck site from NY/NJ without trouble in mind... There are numerous places you can espouse your radical PETA agenda that would make more sense than this place. It is your knee-jerk, goose-step mentality that makes most people hate radicals from both sides of the political spectrum.

I love animals, and personally I don't shoot animals. But when "guns" and "ford trucks" show up on the same page, I am going to wander in the door with an open mind and look around, not sling poop all over the place.

They kinda go together don't they.

...I won't even get started on the subject but i too hunt only what i need not just for the sake of shooting an animal. We don't hate animals, I have several horses, Dogs and Cats along with an occasional Raccoon that i feed scraps too when he comes around. Heck if i had more land I'd have a few more Horses.

I use a Remington 700 BDL in .243 with a Leupold Vari-X II 3-9X. I've never had a deer get back up after knocking them down, and I've gotten a couple Mulies that were over 200 lbs in the cooler. I've been archery hunting elk the past few years, but if I rifle hunt them again I'll get a 300 Remington Ultra Mag.

Also, I use standard Remington Core-Lokt in 100Gr. The have great penetration and hold their weight well. You don't want a bullet that expands a lot with .243, you want it to hold together. I usually have a 1-1.5" exit wound on a shot through the rib cage, with or without hitting bone.

The Remingtons are all I've used, and they are usually pretty cheap when on sale.

the problem Ive had with the corelokt remmingtons is the tip is so soft it can become deformed very easy. Usually it throws the bullet off some. The Winchester jacket extends farther toward the tip which I think protects it some.

Bullets spin as they go through the air, a small tip deform isn't going to affect accuracy much. At most it will affect the aerodynamics and cause more bullet drop, but I usually don't take shots over 300 yards with a .243 anyway.
