Shepherd Rifle Scopes
Nice scope!
I do believe that the Shepherd 310 P-1 scope would be 'overkill'. It appears to have more bells and whistles than what you would actually use, but, it's your call.
I messed up my back in 1991, and had to give up shooting my M1 Garand in High Power Matches. (Actually, I had to give up shooting for almost 3 years.)
I have since bought an AR-HBAR for competition. (Read NO recoil!!!)
With that said, I did quite well with the little 'mouse' gun. Then, I broke my neck. (At C6-C7 vertabrae.) I haven't been able to shoot anything (except handguns) for almost 5 years. (Because of what was done to correct the problem. . . .surgery.) I still can't get a good 'spot-weld', nor can I get prone and sight the rifle.
Because of that, I don't compete, any longer.
I've got several firearms that I have been unable to shoot, but. . . they are going nowhere!!!
With that said, a good friend let me shoot his Remington 700 BDL in .30-'06 that had a 'KDF' muzzle brake on it.
This '06 recoiled like a .223!!!! In other words. . . recoil was non-existent!
I have also discovered 'Limbsaver' recoil pads. According to articles that I've read, recoil is reduced from 40 to 60% with these.
(One of these will be on one of my Marlin .45-70 rifles, real soon!)
So, if you put a 'KDF' and a 'Limbsaver' on a .243, it should feel like a .22 lr!!!
Get well soon.

As my dad used to say, "Old too soon, smart too late!"
I wish that I had known that you had a Python for sale. I still kick myself in the **** for not buying one in '78.
My first wife said (at the time) that she didn't care which .357 that I bought. I had one in my hand.
As for the 1100. . . I've got two. I recently acquired one for $100. It's prevous owner is building a drag car and needed the $$$. He set the price. When he told me that, the money was in his hand before he could finish the sentence!
As for the 'one way ticket'. . . that's baloney. Take it from me. When I broke my neck, I was in so much pain, I prayed to die. Literally.
The pain was unbearable. I couldn't even eat. I couldn't lift my right arm to my face. I had to sit with my neck bent and my chin almost touching my chest, to allow me to take pressure off of the nerves from the disk pressing on them.
When I had the MRI done, they had to put me under general anesthesia, so that I could lay down for more than 2 minutes. (I swear that is gospel!) That bill alone was over 10 G's!
I found two really great doctors. The pain is gone. I thank God every day for letting me find these doctors. They (literally) gave me my life back.
One doctor was from Bethesda Naval Hospital, the other from Georgetown University Hospital (He's the Chief of Neurosurgery).
I've got 2-1/2 lbs. of titanium in my lower back (from that injury) and I have 1-1/2 lbs. of titanium in my neck (from that surgery). The only side-effect from the neck injury (other than the expected loss of some mobility) is that the end of my right index finger is still numb. Hey, if that is the only side-effect, I can live with that!
And yes, I set off metal detectors at airports!!! (Everyone always asks!)
I love having fun with the TSA folks.
"Sir, empty your pockets."
"Sir, pull your shirt out and raise your arms, parallel with the ground."
"Sir, have you undergone surgery?"
That's when I smack my forehead with the palm of my hand and say, "Doh! What am I thinking? Yes, I've had surgery, and I'm sportin' a lot of metal in my back and neck. Do you want me to get the x-rays outta my carry-on?"
Back to the subject at hand. . .
Forget about the one way ticket.
Look into the KDF. I think you'll be truly surprised with it.
Lastly. . . get a 'Bulls Bag.' You don't need a lead sled with this.
Mine fits into a 5 gal. bucket, easily. It holds the rifle/shotgun solidly and doesn't weigh much, at all.
As for the centerfire rifle. . . look at the Remington Mdl 7 in .223! Tack driver and no recoil. (Hey. . . it'll get you back down to the range!!!)
You'll get through this. The best way around a problem is right through the middle of it!

There are about 5 boxes of very hot handloads, a Hidden Thunder Leather, fully lined shoulder holster, speed loaders and some other stuff, and it shoots 4" open sights @ 100 yds. I kept it for so long, just because it looked so damn nice. I was going to give it to my best friend this year, who also got my comp 70 .45 Gold Cup, but he didn't want it....hes not doing too well either.
I just called the gun shop, they sold the Python just a few hours ago and was being packed for shipping. They sold it for $950, and no accessories. So, they are still there if you know anyone interested.
Now what gets me, I offered the Python to another guy a month ago, who said he really wanted one, with all the accs for $950, no tax... and he said it was way too much. I went to the biggest dealer in the area who said it was worth $1100 with all the stuff....
Anyway, time to move on...... try to deal with what I have.

Interestingly, Shepherd has taken care of that. I pasted their explanation from the windage adjustment page on their site:
FIGURE 3 IS THE SHEPHERD THAT HAS BEEN ZEROED IN. FIGURE 4 IF THE SAME SCOPE AFTER IT WAS ADJUSTED THREE MINUTES TO THE RIGHT TO COMPENSATE FOR WIND. BY A SIMPLE LOOK THROUGH THE SHEPHERD SCOPE (WITHOUT ANY NEED FOR A TEST FIRE, TO BANG ON THE SCOPE, OR WORRY) YOU KNOW THAT YOUR ADJUSTMENT "TOOK". NOW YOU CAN FOCUS ON THE TRUE TASK AT HAND WHICH IS MAKING A GOOD SHOT.
THANKS TO OUR PATENTED DUAL-RETICLE SYSTEM THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE FEATURES YOU GET ONLY WITH A SHEPHERD.
Its been a very long time since I had this scope out, and wondered why the reticle was not lined up perfectly... here, I had adjusted for windage last time I was out, and forgot how the scope worked. Really an awesome piece of work! I traded a SWAT model Leupold to get this some years ago through Cabela's (at no extra charge), and I've been very pleased with it.
