sensor? what does it do

hey guys i got a 97 psd i just found a sensor that looks like someone cut the plug going to it theres just wires and no plug its a sensor right next to the alt. its mounted on a steel tube at the front of the engine i was told its a oil sensor does anybody know what it is and what its function is. does this have anything to do with the ebpv not moving even in 20*F weather up here in mass? I hope i can buy just the plug and connect it to these wires I don ' t know why it was cut off it only has three wires and they go into the main harness.

Thanks, Kris

Hey, i know this isn't an answer to your question, but i live in MA and i'm up at school in NH, and I've disconnected my EBPV completly. I've found that the warmup times with it connected and disconnected are almose negligable. Plus it KILLS power while it's on. I know this isn't what you were asking, but just food for thought. Also, someone might have already disconnected the wire, it'l located under the intake side of the turbo. If it's been disconnedted then the EBPV won't engauge. I'd take a pick of the location for you, but my truck is in a lot 2 miles away, not a fun walk. let me know if you want a pick and i'll take one next time i'm out there.

it don't have any problem warming up and if it really isn ' t needed than maybe i shouldn ' t pursue this anymore. But it really puzzles me on why it was cut in the first place. I know this is off subject robb where do you live in mass? I live in taunton had this truck 5 months and am already married to her but i know nothing on her history exept she was used i should say abused by a concrete company before i bought her. I know nothing else exept that shes never been totaled or salvaged.

I live in Scituate. If you don't know where that it's about 20 min south of Boston on the coast. Right now i'm studying up at UNH. I'm in the same boat as far as having an abused truck. I had a beautiful '97 F-250 (pics in my gallery) that i bought form the original owner. Had like 47K on it and was in perfect condition. Then I needed to pay for school so out when the truck and I had nothing up at school for a while. Then I heard about a buddy of mine selling his '97 F-350 for cheap $$. I knew that a landscape company had betten the crap out of it while they owned it previously. I had to do quite a bit of work to get her back up to par... and there's still work that neede to be done. Thank god I replaced the Glow plugs, Upgraded the GPR, replaced both batteries, and cable, as well as starter or else she probably wouldn't start in this 20* (or colder) weather ( i have no place to plug it in up here at school...). Sorry for the thread Hi-Jack

Is that tube hard to clean? If it's that far from the exhaust it must be!!!!

My guess on the reason the plug is missing is cause it was scavenged for another sensor or another truck. And as far as fixing it. Don't bother. The valve is worthless other than for an exhaust brake and you can still do that without the sensor and tube being cleaned.
