Question Unique F100

I'm trying to find out about a special model '53-56 F100 that I believe was made as a railroad service truck. It looks like a crew cab but has only one door on the driver's side and conventional two doors on the passager side. I have seen this model in passing but haven't found anyone to speak directly to about the history etc. Thanks.

I saw one in a truckin magazine in the early 90s, but have not seen one since. The one I was was baby blue and they said it was originally made for the railroad. Yes...3 doors. Quite an interesting truck.

Thanks Brian! I actually think this particular truck is near where I live. It's tourquise and had a Truckin' front plate. I'll check with the magazine to see if they know more. Thanks again. Ed

It might very well be the same one. I have never seen another one. Although this one was blue back then...could have painted it.

I am pretty sure the one in the magazine was a 56, but that was so many years ago....

If you see it around again...stop and take pictures. I would love to have some saved on my computer. It was just so unusual.

Oh....I just realized you are new around here. Welcome to the forum. There is a good group of people around here. Very knowledgable and helpful.

Ed,

Welcome to the finest and friendliest site on the net for old truck stuff.

I have seen some pics (its been years and I can't remember where) of a truck like you mentioned. Companies had to special order trucks with larger cabs. I don't think Ford offered it from their own factory until after 1967 (I may be wrong on that so don't hold me to it). We have several members here who have some information on early extended and specialty cabs, hopefully they will chime in and post some pics from early brochures (pics are always good)

Bobby

Talking

Hey Ed, I seen one in Pigeon Forge in '96. The guy was from FL the truck was a blue '56. I helped him with his sunvisors. The truck was COOL I think I have some pictures of it somewhere. I'll look and see.

WELCOME to the board, and GOD BLESS

Want to see one?

Standard Catalog of Light Duty Ford Trucks krause.com - ISBN: 0-87349-411-3

Page 86 / 1950 Marmon-Herrington Ranger.

Picture shows modified panel truck converted to 4WD with additional doors and windows added to body. These were made for RR's, ARAMCO, US Gov't, etc.

ARAMCO bought Ford vehicles beginning in the 1930's.

ARAMCO = Arabian-American Oil Company

Other companies besides Marmon-Herrington made these specials too.

Crown Coach, Henney, Derham, Sayers & Scovill, Hess & Eisenhardt, Meteor, etc. etc. made like vehicles for Ford, GM, Studebaker, IHC, etc.

Some passenger cars and station wagons were modified too.

In 1935/36...Ford made some 8 door sedans, mainly for the film studios.

I once owned a 1956 Cadillac "woodie" station wagon that was custom built by Hess & Eisenhardt...for....as I later found out: Burt Lancaster.

Those were the days...I paid $350.00 for it at the LA Auto Auction in the mid 1970's, and drove it home. Prolly worth 100 grand today.
