Help With C6 Transmission!!

Hey guys im still pretty new to this forum but you guys seems like good knowledgeable people. Anyways i have 73 f-250 2wd with a 390 an a c6. My question is does anyone know were i can find a schematic or diagram of the valvebody in a c6 transmission. Problem is i had a friend of mine who said he knew what he was doing rebuild the c6 and put a shift kit in it while he was at it now i got it all installed with a tci 2000 stall converter and filled it all and hooked everything up and the trans wont engage any gear it wont do any anything at all i asked the guy he says the shift kit was very vague about what springs to replace in the valve body so hes not sure if he did the valve body right and he thinks thats the problem and he says we need a diagram of the valve body to figure it out now so if anyone out there knows were i can get a diagram of the valve body youd be doing me a huge favor thanks in advance

First verify the torque converter is engaged to the flywheel (don't laugh, I have seen it before) Second, check your fluid level. If you are 2 QT low, nothing will go. Third, drop pan, check that the shift linkage is engaging the VB correctly. Fourth, use supplied directions to verify check ball and spring location. The springs are color coded, you might need to call the manufacturer for assistance.

I looked at my shift kit instructions, it seemed prettly clear on what is supposed to go where. I could not find my ATSG book.

Welcoem to FTE!

FTE has a Drivetrain forum where specific transmission questions can be asked. This forum is for the 73-79 truck overall

Maybe read these before checking in the drivetrain forum

I was looking at the valve body diagram anf I too put a shift kit in my C6 73 ford and it didnt respond like I thought it would, I may have done some thing wrong, on the picture does the ball have to be on top of the spring or the bottom? or the bottom. it didnt shift right and had serious shift lag lol. so I put everything back to the way it was and it still dont shift right.

Just a side bar note:

It's very possible, and all to easy to over tighten the small bolts that hold the valve body to the housing. If they are not torqued in the exact manner/method as listed? The valve body can actually "distort" just enough to cause the spool valves to bind up a tad.

Just a heads up.

Ball on top of the spring.
