2002 5.4L Engine Swap into 1992 F-150?

I have a complete 5.4 engine and trans out of a 2002 F-250 and would like to install it in a 1992 F-150 SWB that I have. I have the complete wiring harness and ECM from the 5.4 truck. The 1992 has a 320K mile 4.9 that needs retiring.
I have searched this forum and have not found a previous swap of 4.6/5.4 into the older F-150's. Any knowledge, opinions or thoughts about this swap would be appreciated.

P.S. -- I know other engines would be an easier swap, but I already own this low mileage 5.4 and thought I would use it.

I just saw a yellow 1976 Ford F-150 in the recent issue of Classic Trucks magazine. It has a 5.4L mod engine and tranny out of a newer pickup truck. Unfortunately they didn't go into specifics on how they got it to work. Perhaps you can contact the mag or the owner of the truck (I think he had a shop do the work) and see how they made it all work. I was considering this same swap (I was going to use a junk yard DOHC 5.4L from a Lincoln Navigator) for my mom's 1986 Crown Victoria project. I still haven't figured out how I will make the computer work. I hope this helps you out.

Sorry to bother you E460, but I have some additional information that might help you out. The Yellow 78 Ford pickup that I mentioned is from the January 2008 issue of Classic Trucks magazine and it is owned by Arvel Gatewood. It looks like he contacted The Detail Zone in Deleware for the wiring and tuning of the 5.4L mod engine and tranny. Here is the link for The Detail Zone.

http://www.thedetailzone.com/

Gatewood also contacted Jim Meyer Racing for help with getting the 5.4L engine into the engine bay of the 78. It looks like he welded in an IFS kit from that company. Here is the link for Jim Meyer Racing.

I hope this brings you a little closer to completing your project.

351w/5.4l swap

I am considering installing a 5.4L sohc engine in place of a tired 351W, any info you have on this similar swap would be appreciated. It is a 82 bronco/4spd

You will need an automatic transmission to go with it, bellhousings for the mod motors only exist with C4 transmissions. Summit Racing sells the bellhousings and complete transmissions.

It is if you get the matching trans for the 5.4. like a ZF5 or 6 speed.

Well, the ZFs are significantly larger/longer than any manual tranny offered in the 80s. Modifications to the tunnel are going to be required, as well as a crossmember for the transfer case, and then also your driveshafts. As long as you plan/budget for that, you'll be okay, but its a ton of work.

I have mounted a 4.6 liter dohc lincoln engine & tranny in my 79 F100, lot's of work still to do.
I purchased a complete wiring harness diagram from WWW.AHDOL.com for less than 12.00.
I am reusing the entire Lincoln Mark 8 harness but will be splicing in existing lights and other items.

AHDOL has great schematics and email delivery, I have used them on 2 other projects and have been completely satisfied.
