Romp, Romp all gone

Rebuilt the IPR ($12 at IH dealer for O ring kit) and no more romp, romp when it's cold. Sweet, now I don't wake the neighbors at 3AM, Straight Pipe!

I need to do that myself. Instead, I switch it to one of the tunes and no romp. Stock = romp. Good job and thanks for posting.

Disagree? Let me ask you this, did it romp when new using 15-40 when it was cold? I think not. Mine didn't. So I am going to FIX the problem. Nothing wrong with syntheteics or other grades, but the romping is indicative of a problem.

I am not sure it will solve my problem but it seems to have solved his.

Mine would romp when it was zero or below...once I switched to 5-40 syn in the winter it has never done it at any temperature (well below zero) and that is without the block heater. But this intrigues me...$12 to rebuild the IPR and it solved the romps for i.m. nutz. One question, does anyone have the IH part number on this o-ring kit?

The IH# is 1825806C92, Ya, I was kinda suprised that it fixed the rompin. I had asked the diesel guy at the Ford shop and he said that was the cure! Easy fix once I found a 1 1/8 socket deep enough, used an impact type socket, was deeper than a regular one. Excellent write up in the mods and maint.

what is the IPR and by romp romp do you mean the truck revs up the idles down, this repeats until the truck warms up?

That is exactly what the "romps" are...Here is another "how-to" I found this morning, including a removal tool construction.

Dan, do you have manual trans? If so, i think this is the reason your engine does not romp.. With my auto trans, the exact moment I would take it out of gear, the romp romp would stop.. It has romped since the truck was new, even after a oil change.. (was using Del 400 15w-40, in garage every nite). I finally switch to Rottela Syn 5w-40 and it has not romp since. (over a year ago). My son-in-law has a manual trans and his 99 has never romp either. (not garaged, no syn oil)..

Exactly what are you calling "romp". This is the first I have heard of it.
