88 ford f150 no fire
hey i got my 88 ford truck running the other day i just replaced the oil pump. i cranked it up n everything and it ran great 4 5 minutes and shut off and wont start back up again... i tried to figure it out and i cant figure why its not firing. i do know that when i moved the distributor around before it would make a noise like the fuel pump was kickin on or something (with key on engine off), but now it doesnt. does this mean i have a pip problem? whenever i plug in the harness to the module it makes this noise, but not when i turn the distributor.
i have the tfi ford ignition system. its a fuel injected 351 windsor.
can someone help?

Have you confirmed no spark? Did the truck die on its own or did you shut it off? I have replaced the "spark module" (that's not the right name I don't think) that is on the distrubutor 2 times on my '91 w/302. Could be what you have. It'll crank but when you pull a sparkler there's no fire there. Good luck.

yeah i have a spare one and i tried it already it didnt make a difference (tfi ignition module). i did the spark check at the wires and the coil. i have a new distributor on it. and yes it did just shut off while it was running.
it used to make noise when i turned the distributor (as if i were adjusting the timing) with the key on engine off. now it doesnt do this.
another weird thing that happend is that the truck wouldnt crank when you turned the key, so i had to start it with the "screwdriver to starter relay trick" and it would fire up and run..., but ever since the truck shut off and wont come back on, it will turn over by the key now (but wont start) . very weird..

yeah thats what i thought it was really. but i replaced it and still nothing. and i have power going to the coil but i dont think i have a pulse going through the tach because i have a pretty new coil. but i am going to check it.
it my manual it says to check the number 2 spot on the harness for stray voltage (the one above the ground wire, second from bottom) on the ignition module harness. and i have stray voltage going through it, but it doesnt really tell me what to do after that. and i have a crappy multimeter but i did have a little voltage going through that spot on the harness with key off.

ecm relay?
ok i have good voltage supply to the icm, and when i hook up a test light to the tach side of coil all i get is a bright light staying on (no flashing) while turning her over. i have a good icm on it, and a new distributor but im starting to wonder if the pip sensor is dead, because when i turn the distributor with the key on it doesnt trigger the fuel pump noise like it did when it ran.
what all could go wrong? all i can figure is a short in the tach wire (which the only thing i can guess is wrong with that is the little resistor by the coil, which i dnt know how to test), a bad ecm (which i doubt its this), or a bad pip sensor.
anyone here that can help me?
