ICP resistance mod survey...

Been reading a lot about the ICP resistance mods a lot lately, and i would like to help future readers (and myself) get a firm grip on what this mod offers.

so far, i've heard it gives more power. is there a point of diminishing returns?

if you have done this mod, could you please post what resistances you have experimented with, observations for each of those experiments, and overall which one works best for your truck and driving style?

also, if you have any great links that pertain, please post them here too.

here, i'll start... follow this link, and then scroll (or search) for 10K Resistor Mod: http://pages.prodigy.net/stevebaz/_i...az/index3.html

a thread with great instructions from Coon: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...on-my-10k.html

thanks all!

i think we need a new name for this mod. most call it the 10k mod. some that are running diffrent resistors call it what ever they are running k mod. all this could confuse new people. someone new for example could think "10k" mod and "15.6k" mod are two totally diffrent things. i kinda like how Eric_F250 refers to it as an ICP resistance mod. Just my .02

i'd also be curious to hear what the prerequisites for this mod are.

in another thread i read that you need gages- true?

back pressure mods?

does the ICP resistance mod play well with a shimmed fuel pressure regulator?

gauges are a plus for ANY mod, the main problem is monitering egt. the icp mod will raise it and its important to keep it under control.

pre-requisites...lol good lord, just do the mod.

no backpressure mod needed, the motor is set up very nice already

fuel pressure shim is good for everything, in fact, all the homemade mods go well together, its kinda like a hillbilly chip.....icp mod, eot mod, fuel shim mod, all together makes a homegrown chip, not as effective but when added ontop of a chip it is quite nice (tw and dp chips excluded of course)

I wouldn't call the FPR Shim mod a mod. Adding the BB to the FPR brings the fuel pressure back up to where it should be; we shim it because the spring has lost its tension causing a low fuel pressure situation. Mine was ~40 psi before the shim and ~70 psi after the shim.

Pressure is supposed to be no higher than 80 - 85 psi. You get much higher than that and other problems start arising.

I like "ICP Resistance" nomenclature, also. It clearly identifies what we're really adding to the "system" when we do the mod.

Smile

there are a lot of bits and pieces of info out there, but no one single comprehensive "sticky" thread that really covers it all. i figure if i have a question, there are probably 50 others that also have that same question.

it'd be cool if there were a sticky for each of the really common questions that come up every day. searching is great, but a persistant thread that lives at the top of the list might save lots of redundant questions/answers.

oh yeah, the point of this note is at the tip of, yes, another question! do the hillbilly chip mods need to be removed before adding a real chip or computer, or does the computer just work with whatever it gets?

I'll start using the "new" term now.

A chip will do what the ICP Resistance mod does, and a lot more. If you install a chip, you won't need the ICP Resistance mod. The FPR Shim keeps the fuel pressure where it would be if the spring were new.
