Bone stock fuel injected 302 performance question

What should I do to bone stock 302 to kick it up a little????? I already plan to put on headers & dual exhaust on it.....Are there any other performance upgrades that I could do for a reasonable price?????

Certainly are. How much work are you ready to tackle? A cam upgrade is easily the best bang for the bucks, $200 that will transform the motor, but it's a lot of work. An easier upgrade is 1.7 ratio rockers and all you gotta do is remove the valve covers. Air intakes and throttle bodies and ignition parts are fine if you like the look, but they won't produce much if any real performance gain.

I have no idea of the year of the transplant. I know that it is a clean motor with 37,000 miles on it. I am getting it for free from a buddy. I plan to put headers and duel glass packs. I was thinking of putting a throttle body spacer on it. I was just wondering if there is anything that I can do for little $ and without tearing the whole motor apart. thanks guys 4 the input

Don't waste your money on the T-body spacer.

Without tearing into the motor, headers, exhaust, roller rockers and an open element filter will make a difference.

Ill mention that unless the engine is not running good, NO bolt on or power adder will help if its not running right. Do the usuall! Give'er a good tune up! replace worn ignition components, fuel filters, the works! If it aint running right or its missing, your wasting power and gas mialeage.

A couple bolt on things would be, : high perf ignition, high flow filter, exhaust as mentioned, TB spacer helps but not really noticable, And an electric fan instead of your mechanical fan would free up a few more HP. Switching over every fluid to synthetic Ive read can give a few more HP plus it makes stuff last longer.

Hope this gives ya few more ideas.

Conanski,

will 1.7 rockers work with a higher-lift cam, say a CompCam 31-255-5, as far as piston-to-valve clearance?

I have a 93 F-150 302 with stock heads.

You probably have a roller cam in that motor.. check it before you start buying.

1.7 rockers will be fine for valve clearance, but you will need new springs.

Yeah, I figured new springs were pretty much a given. I'm pretty positive it's a roller cam too.

Thanks for the help.
