Lightbulb I wish I found this site 6 months ago…

This is the most useful Ford truck site I think there is. I have only been a member for a short time, but I have found so much valuable information here and had many questions answered, it’s great. The collective experience of the many members and the willingness to share knowledge and get so many perspectives is priceless.

I bought my 55 F100 in April when a deal popped up and didn’t really have a plan for rebuilding it. I didn’t make any big mistakes (I think), but I wasn’t as organized as I wanted to be.

Any way, I finally figured out how to use the gallery and I loaded up a bunch of stuff for you to look at, your going to laugh when you see what the truck looked like when I got it.

Over the holiday weekend I made some progress that really felt good, once in a while I think, do you know what you got yourself into? I finished the frame and now I can rip it all down, paint it and reassemble it for real. Anyway, enough blabbering.

Take a look at the last album, it shows the completed frame, I am up for any advice and constructive criticism you can offer.

<O
Thanks to all that have responded to my questions.

Larry

Welcome aboard FTE, though to bad it's a nasty olde '55 ( ), we could sure use more "Orphan Years, '57-'60, truck owners here.

I hear ya, Larry. I had my truck for quite a while before I found this site, too. I wish I would have found it before I found the truck itself, but that's another story.

At least you found us now and your truck is progressing nicely.

Welcome aboard!

You have done a lot of great work since April. No criticism
from here. Keep it up. You will be showing it in no time.
The emotional satisfaction is really worth it.

Larry;

Welcome to the site; you've made a lot of progress. Looks like you've got some great helpers as well.

I know I would not be where I am to date ; if not for the expertise and encouragement from this site.

Enjoy the journey; some days are better than others.

Thank you for the compliment. My two boys 14 and 17 are a great help. My younger boy is really into swinging a wrench and has a great understanding of mechanics, he has already learned to MIG weld. And Robert my 17 year old would like to have the truck when it’s finished, go figure.

Thanks

6 months!? I wish it was around in 1992 when I bought my '53! By the time I found this site, I was searching on how to wire my voltage regulator up for my 400 engine swap...my truck was 90% "finished" when I found FTE. Great site for old effie information, that's for sure!

I think we all feel the same way. I know that I sure could have used the information, friendliness, camaraderie, insults, misinformation, etc alot sooner than when I first found this place.

Your truck is looking great!

just looked throught your gallery, thats some 1st class work.......

i enjoyed looking at your progress, it motivates me to work on mine. i'm about 2 years behind you a my building speed. thanks again for posting them.

i was really liking everything you did, until the engine choice......... but if we all did everything the same, that would be extremely dull.

i also was very pleased when i came across this forum myself. i'm currently checking it everyday, thats more than my truck gets.

I'm one of the few that became a member BEFORE I bought my truck.
I was looking for a 55 Ford months before I bought one, and stumbled across this site via the galleries. My truck would probably be a lot worse off than it is if not for these good ole guys and their infinite wisdom.
Welcome to FTE!

Hey man, 1 fine lookin truck to start with!! I wish mine had been that nice to start with.Mine was JUNK. I just have one question, are you goin to keep that steering set up? I noticed you said "Deadly steering" I'm hoping you're planning on scrapping that. A rack and pinion on a straight axle is bad news! There has been much discussion on different and alternative IFS front ends. The Aerostar is a fine lookin IFS, and if you cut the frame and notch it almost all the way through it can sit very low. Just my 2 cents and maybe overpriced at that?? Welcome aboard, glad to have you!! Check out my gallery and look at my junk truck I started with.

The frame gets paint this weekend

Hey Truxx,

Take a look at the last photo album I have, it has the finished frame with the front end installed, hope you like it. The rack mounted on the straight axle was from the prior owner, when I pulled the engine and trans out the steering linkage flew apart. You can tell from the old interior pictures the level of quality he was comfortable with. I’m going to go check out your gallery.

Thanks
Larry
