PATS key system

PATS key system
I have a truck that was built supposedly w/o the anti theft chipped key system, but I would like to have it. PATS is disabled but present on my current pcm, but i hear the main harness may not have the plugs I need. The system was taken away for the '05 model year, but was back in '06. The work truck that doesn't have it was built late 04. BUT my early '04 has it. My question is, what do I need to do the modification or does anyone know if the harnesses are intact and there or did they completely change the harnesses for no pats in 05 MY but pats in 04 and 06 MY? Right now I know I need: 2 PATS keys, the tumbler transceiver, and the module. Anything else?? Any help would be greatly appreciated as the people I have talked to just look at me funny and say I'm crazy. After having several non-PATS system vehicles stolen, maybe they will understand. And no, an aftermarket alarm is of no interest to me... Thanks for any guidance.

I have done some more research and found that Ford uses a hybrid SMT LED for warning lights in the instrument cluster... Just an interesting thing I found out...regular bulbs are used for the battery, cruise, and air bag light though..... odd... As a side note, the smt led for the anti theft system was indeed left out...although there are presolder applications present... I will trace the wires here soon...

You will also need a PCM with PATS function capability. If the PCM doesn't come from the same donor vehicle theat the PATS module does, then they will need to be "synched" together using a special programming tool. You may have some wiring to do, as well, I'm not sure.
I came across a very good tech article regarding Ford PATS not too long ago. If your interested in looking it over, go to this site:
http://www.smpcorp.com/web_app/techtip/techtips.asp
and from the "Symptom" dialog box, select "Computer Relearn Procedures". From the "Make" dialog box select "Ford".
You should come up with the relevant PDF file ("9662_0405.pdf").

Thanks for that article. Haven't seen that one... I knew we had type E but the programming protocol helps. My pcm has pats in it, but it is disabled for some reason. My thoughts are ford was changing vendors and didn't have the modules in time? dunno. I have been looking at my cluster from the pats equipped truck and the cluster from my non pats equipped truck and they look identical except one has an led on the 'security LED hole 1'. I was hoping to be able to trace the LED path back to the connector and see if my non equipped harness has what I need and all the connectors. That is highly likely to be the case... but I don't want to spend $$$$ on non returnable items and look endlessly for connectors...

PIN configuration has been completed. One last question though. I was at the dealer today looking up a new pcm and was told a pcm had to be a 100% match to what I had. I can't do an '06 pcm in my 05 nor can i do an '05 in my '04. Is this right? If I install a new pcm are there any particular things I need to do? Out of the box can i just install the new one and then be all good to go except for the truck will need to have the transceiver synchronized??

Possible changing vendors of supply for components... However, I traced pins on the connectors and wires and found the harness is missing key components.. I can get around that... If I can just get a clear answer re: the swapability of pcms i will be good to go... If you want a list i have compiled for this modification let me know...
