Turning Signals/Flasher

Turning Signals/Flasher
2000 Exp/164,000 miles
Both Turning Signals/Flasher went out. Looking at the manual, the Hazard Flasher is on the same fuse an works on the instrumnet console as well as the back lights flashing.
Any ideas?
Is there an actual device or module that makes the turn signals flash that would be separate from the hazard flasher or perhaps another fuse or relay involved?

Dont know about your Exp, but the factory wiring diagrams/EVTM for my 95 Taurus & 97 Explorer shows the E-flashers & turn signals are both wired to the same electronic flasher. Odds are your EXP is wired the same.
OTOH, the EVTM for my 87 Ranger shows 2 seperate flashers.
Dont have the EVTM for your Exp??
Nows the perfect time to get one.

I know I was confused when I first heard about the multifunction switch, so just to make PK's post extra clear: the multi-function switch is on the steering column...the lever you use to turn on and off the turn signals and wipers is attached to/part of the switch. Judging by the number of posts on this site, they are often a good suspect when anything they control is acting goofy.

OK, did my searching, and drumming this thread back to the top.
My signals will sometimes work perfectly normal, while other times, the relay will stick, and keep the lights, as well as the dash indicator lamp lit. I can correct this by manually cancelling the turn signals and then turning them back on. Sometimes they come on stuck, sometimes they blink a few times then stick...and again, other times, never a problem. I found the darn thing under the dash, right above the OBDII port, has a wire loom going to it. I can feel it click, and when it quits, I can tap on it and get it clicking again. This is on a 99 Exped BTW.
Anyway...this unit is in the neighborhood of 3-4" in length, 3" in height and 1.5-2" in width. Any ideas here folks?
Thanks!
Sam

Does it look like this?
Its just a turn signal flasher. If you want motorcraft, they cost about $10 bucks without signal mirrors, and about $15 with signal mirrors. It pulls out like a fuse, treat it like so.

Interesting...no...going back out to look again!
OK, back...and I guess my reply didn't send...so I'll just add on here. I still haven't gotten to that relay. I guess it is housed in a box under the dash there, and someone has added some black tape to it to keep it shut. I'm going to need to cut that off to get in. From what I could tell, there are multiple relays in the box...let's hope this one is on the outside, or else I'll be forced to bring the whole box down where I can see it non-astronaut style.
Thanks!
