Well, part way through the turbo removal. That rear pedestal bolt is a ^*^*&^*^ucker to get to. I have not cracked it loose just yet as I ran out of daylight. The battle will continue early AM.
I will NEVER do this job again. This will be the only turbo I put on my truck!! lol These fooking bolts are incredible! How they designed this set-up, I will never know!!
If anyone here has done this job before, have any of you replaced the gaskets that go to your exhaust down tubes. I am replacing the turbo flange gasket, but wondering about the two sides below that flat flange?
the up-pipe donut gaskets are worse than pulling the turbo if that what you are asking. They are very difficult to get to the 4 bolts that hold the clamps in place.
That is exactly what I am talking about. I just got new donuts and they are going in! Now is the time, while the turbo is OFF!! I am guessing that with that being the exhaust side of the turbo I shouldnt get any boost loss if it is not 100% sealed. Correct Tim?
the up-pipes wont cause you to lose boost, they prevent you from building it, if it is all sealed up nice then yes you will build your peak boost and have no odor in the cab
Joe is right with exhuast leaks your potential for boost is lower because the driving force for building boost is the exhaust pressure so if its not making thru the turbo then that is lost potential.
Well sit rep is, I did not do the donuts after all on the up-pipes, too much of a pain. The sad part of this story is I got it all finished, fired it up, ran it around the block. It ran much better than my old turbo, but when I got back to the driveway, lots of oil underneath! I think the o-rings moved when I got the pedestal down. Talk about a kick in the nuts! I am going to start it all again tomm. I truly am in HELL right now!!
