stupid q about oil pump

Do I need a drive gear for the drive shaft or not?

Also is there any thing I should do to the oil pump before I install it?

The oil pump is driven by the distributor shaft. So in effect the oil pump drive gear is the distributor drive gear. Normally the distributor gear is not changed unless the cam is changed or there is excessive wear on the gear.
