Bigwin is correct. My 56 has the vin plate attached to the door pillar with screws as well. This plate is called the "rating plate" according to Mid Fifty catalog. The "official" (legal) i.d. vin # was stamped into the frame rail, thus the rating plate being "unofficial" was attached with screws.
