new seats for '82 F-150
My old truck has the normal bench seat in it. I hate that seat for numerous reason: it smells bad, takes up too much room, uncomfortable, and ripped and torn in many places. Is it possible to remove the bench and install buckets? What kind of vehicle would I need to get the buckets out of for it to work if it is possible?

I went to a couple local auto recyclers. I got lucky, I found a cloth 40/20/40 bucket set in a 1990 f-150 extra cab for $150. Steam cleaned and installed them. It took a bit of work to fit them. Outside of the bench holes lined up but interior side I had to drill and bolt. 3/8 bolts, I used 2" by 1/4" flat stock, I figured it would make a better stiffener plus I always have some kicking around. But large heavy fender washers would work, loctited and double nutted them.
To me a bench seat is fine unless the driver is 5 foot and the passenger is 6 foot. feels like your knees are in the engine compartment!

I installed buckets and a console from a 90' F-250. You will have to place the seats where you want them and then drill. There are no factory dimples to look for. Large washers are a good idea, as the vehicles with buckets have extra material where the seats bolt down. Would also be a good idea to grab the floor mounted/short end of the seat belt, that way you get the plastic that brings it up to seat level. I was unable to remove one, and now I have to fish around between my seat and the console to get my seatbelt on. I have a junkyard trip planned this week so hopefully I can get one.
