if its original it will have factory ford #'s on it. but it could have been a rebuilt from the parts store. if it doesn't have factory #'s on it it probably original. highly unlikely it is original. not much lasts 30 years.

In 35 years of working as a Ford partsman, I NEVER saw one master cylinder with a Ford part number on it. The carton yes, the master, no. The masters are bought by Ford from Bendix (and other outside suppliers), and some will have Bendix numbers, but Ford numbers? No Way! Show me a picture of one....

The rubber gasket, that's a different story...some do have numbers, but they are Ford engineering numbers. No Ford part since 1955 has had an actual true part number on it. Not one. Only engineering or casting numbers are used. The masters have neither, as a general rule.

An original master cylinder for what? A 1924 Rickenbacker? Or a 1951 Frazer? Please when asking questions, put the pertinate data in the post, like what: year, make, model, type of brakes, etc.

Sorry about not being more specific. The truck is a 1978 f250 supercab camper special thats been sitting in a garage for 27 years, and the only things that i can see that have been replaced is the alternator, brake calipers and some springs on the carburator. It still has 1978 plug wires and the original spare tire "Firestone twin country".I'm trying to renew alot of things like the master cylinder by rebuilding if its original.I've enjoyed reading all the information that everybody has posted on this sight. If i new more about computors i could probably post pictures. Thanks Mark Virginia Beach Va.
