87 Bronco with a 460
Ok So I have a 460 sitting around my shop. Its to big for my ranger, so Im buying a 87 bronco for less then 1000 bucks. I want to pull the 302 out of the bronco and drop in the 460. Now I know there is someone out there that has done this before and I as just wondering how it came out at the end. I know that in my ranger, my brothers and I put a 302 in my ranger and now it gets hot when idleing for awhile. So will a 460 get hot in a 87 bronco even with a good 4 row aluminum radiator?

you need to use a big block c6 in the swap out of a 78 up bronco with a 351m or 80 to 82 bronco with a 351m or 80 up f250-f350 with a 351m, 400 or 460 and the transfer case will bolt right up to it and if you find a 460 80up f250-f350 get the frame and motor mounts, then it bolts right in

460's can be a daily driver and 302 can do over 500 horse too, but it's up to what the person is going to use it for. I use my 460 bronco for snow wheeling and some mud stuff but i still drive it to work and around the city,my bronco is on 44 boggers with 60 front and 10.25 welded rear on 4.11 and i love the big block torque that you pay tons of money to get out of a small block. pay to play is all i say. thanks kevin

the 302 is an underpowered motor for a bronco. a 5.8 or 460 is a good choice and an easy swap. if that 87 is carbed you will have easier time, if its efi you have a bit more work ahead of you unless you go efi 460 which is easy as well. find a bigblock C6 , reuse your tcase and the 302 efi harness then get the efi upper/lower equipment and proper computer and your done and running a bad *** efi460.
I found my 5.8 swap to get better mpg then my original 302 did. if you drive light with the 460 i think you would get the same mpg as the 302 would get just because it requires more throttle to move the heavy bronco.
