1989 F-150 4x4 front spring replacement

I finally had time to get my 1989 F-150 4x4 into my garage and start dealing with some surface rust issues. I was checking the front fenders and noticed that the truck has the dual front shock package. The truck also needs new front springs... and I can't find any. What is the difference between the springs from a 4x4 without the dual front shock option? Will springs for a single front shock truck work?

Minea are worn out and the front end is starting to sag. I was also thinking of getting 2" lifted springs or using coil spacers.

I have replaced springs on ever truck I have owned 9 F150 's I don't care if 20000 gem at the age things sag. As for spring quad or no I use same ones the quad may be and HD but side by side look same..They have stock and HD ones. You will be suprise when you compare new to old. I average a 1" + of lift . Also you can get 2" taller than stock springs . I use F350 2x4 dualy coils because I haul alot . All my local part houses have them in stock or next day. Thats a 100 mile radius local I live in BFE good luck

You have to jack the truck up by the frame far enough so that the front beams hang down without touching the ground. There's a small clip at the top that holds the top of the spring in and you drop a large socket down in the spring and undo the large bolt at the bottom. It's pretty easy to do.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like the front springs are well within my capabilitys. Thinking about doing the front and rear springs when it warms up and life calms down. Working on a 90 f150 4x4 with a noticeable sag on drivers side. Nothing apppears broken or rusted out.
Thanks Frank

I just did front springs on my 90 f150 4x4 it really is a pretty easy job, took me about two hours. I disconnected the sway bar on both sides but im not quite sure if it was actually needed. Just had to put my foot on the hub and push down a little to get the new ones in. Hardest part was getting the old shocks off the upper nut was the one that gave me trouble but nothing an angle grinder with a cut off wheel wouldnt take care of.

tony b did you need to take the shocks loose for the spring change, or were you replacing them at the same time? How much were the springs and where did you get them?
Thanks Frank

I would imagine that the shocks would have to come loose in order to get the I beams to drop, but it has been a while since I have done this.

With a jack under axle.remove tire, brake caliber, lower shock bolt re move upper coil ( i use a old ratchet strap around coil for safety.)retainer bolt . Let pressure off floor jack holding axle till loose. Remove jack put pressure down on axle till top coil comes out. Remove center bolt. Clean all areas them reinstall in reverse. Done many sets this way no problems. Good luck @ hrs fist side them 20 min the next. Good luck
