97 f-250hd 4x4 gas to diesel conv. CAT power

Hey guys, gals i'm new to the forum and have reciently decided to convert my truck to a diesel.9 mpg just costs too much. Here is the deal i am looking for any info on a cat repower. What fit's what doesn't,pic's useful notes etc. etc.I currently have at my disposal a 3208t with 0 miles for a really good price. Will it fit and what trans do you recommend and why.I've done a search on the posts for the last 3 hours and haven't really found anything usefull. Any and all info, pics and hard learned lessons will be appreciated. No cummins comments please, have had 3 6b series and all have been junk so it's not an option.International swap info for 9.0l v-8 and dt466,detroit 8.2t are also options i am considering.I work for an engine rebuilder so these 4 options are all i have for now.Thank you for your comments, suggestions.

Do you have a standard or automatic? With an automatic, an Allison would be a good choice, With a standard, You could have an adapter made by a machine shop. Anything can be made to fit with enough money.

This kind of thing has been what I've wanted to do in a project truck. I have wanted to put a Cat 3404 or a Cat C7 in one of these trucks for awhile now, but still am waaaaaaayy too short on $$$, so kudos for that man. I have always thought that an Allison would make a good automatic choice, but I'd like to get a 10-12 speed trans, because of the bigger assortment of gear ratios, and the stuff that I would put my truck through.

Any idea what you would use this truck for? Towing, daily driver, off-road.....? That'll also play a big part in what to put in behind that engine.

You might want to check out or search the engine swap forum. There's a lot of good info there.

There was a thread on the Cat. 3208 conversion about 10months ago. I think it was in the General Diesel Forum. Try a search there.
