naturally aspirated on nitrous?

This is the same question I was wondering. I'm thinking of buying a 1991 f250 4x4, it has a 7.3 non turbo, zf trans, only 80,000Km, but was wrote off, guy layed it on it's side, all cosmetic damage on the passenger side. My plan was to make it a mud bogger, add some nitrous, open up the injection pump, add a set of stacks. How would a non turbo diesel act with nitrous, is it safe?

Nitrous doesn't do a whole lot on a diesel that doesn't have a bunch of extra fuel. If the truck doesn't put out the black smoke...i.e., there isn't any extra fuel for the NOS to burn, then it won't do much.
If you turn up the pump on the 6.9 and spend some time on the dyno (or road) playing with the jets you may be able to tweak 50-70 HP out of the bottle.

I was thinking of that as well, propane that is, isn't it used for turbo charged engines as a milage improver? I know a fellow out here with a 05 f250 6.0 that took off the factory turbo and added 2 turbos one smaller than the other, he added nitrous and propane injection. He told me that the nitrous is used to get the turbos to spool up quicker and the propane he uses to get more mileage out of the truck. Whats your thoughts?

i've heard that you can use methanol/water injection.
i know in a naturally aspirated vehicle(car) you must retard the timing. I'm not sure about running it on a non turbo truck. but i would imagine it would work well with propane or nitrous. Snow Performance makes the meth/water injection kits. i've called them about a few diff. apps. and they were very helpful. i would call them and explore that option.

Yes, he says he gets about 6 mpg better, but it's not very economical when you get on the happy pedal then I think it gets 6 gallons to the mile! When last I talked with him a few months ago, he ran it on a chassis dyno and it could not get a good reading as it kept frying the tires on the drums. He eventually added 1000 lbs to the box and was gentle accellerating and the most accuate reading they got was close to 700 hp and the torque is still unknown as the dyno only goes to 1000 ft/ lbs , but his estimate is 1200 to 1300. That truck is definatly a white knuckle ride!

i'll tell you one thing about propane, i did an experemint with it not too long ago with just a camp fuel bottle and a blow torch nozzle. I ran a hose from the nozzle to my intake, through the firewall, and drove around town. No increase in power. or noticeable mileage. The next day i drove to the beach with my buddy to do some surfing, and on the way there with a full tank running the propane we used about an 1/8 of a tank. From my house to the beach is probably 60 or 70 miles. On the way home we ran no propane and used 1/4 of a tank. That seems to me to be a darn good increase in mileage with just a low pressure system. Also i forgot to mention that we were going about 70 on cruise control stopping ever 4 miles on the toll way and going through a small town.
