2006 F350 V-10 Owners ----- Oil Changes HELP
Anybody have an opinion on when I should do my oil changes and why??? I have a 2006 F350 V-10. Keep in mind the Manufacturers Scheduled Maintenance is at 5,000 miles --- Period! NOT 5,000 or 3 months whichever comes first. Just every 5,000 miles, end of story. What gives???
Thanks,
Rich

I am a firm believer of changing your oil every 3000 miles. I just traded in an F-150 with a 302 that had 220,000 miles on it. The engine had never been out of the truck and the heads had never been off. The engine was great.
An old buddy had the same engine in a slightly older truck. Even though his truck was lighter (standard cab short bed 2x4 vs.SC short bed 4x4) he followed the Ford service schedule. His engine was smoking on start at 150,000 miles.

my trucks oil is always noticably dirty at about 3k
so thats when it gets changed
also, it always uses a small amount of oil between changes
I think if i went to 5K miles I might have to add a little oil in
between changes
this is towing \hauling all the time
anyway- there could not be an easier vehicle to change the oil
on than the SD v10

I maybe over **** about oil changes, but like redford, my old Bronco 5.8L has 232xxx miles on it and the heads have never been off. Castrol GTX 10w-30 every 2500 miles with a motorcraft oil filter.
My 07 F-350 6.8L gets 5w-20 Castrol GTX every 2500 miles and i hope to get the same engine life from it.

I just looked up the 2005 Scheduled Maintenance Guide 4th Printing in .pdf format from the Motorcraft website. On page 42 is the "Special Operating Conditions" info. Here is clearly states 3000 miles or 3 mths...and even a condition for excessive idling/low speed of 200hrs.
Here is the link: http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdi...&menuIndex1=25
Hope this helps...

I changed the oil in my new V10 at 500 mille, 2000 miles and 4500 miles, using Ford Motorcraft 5w20....an old time mechanic I worked for several yaers ago taught me to break in a new engine that way. I know, lots of folks say that is a waste of money, but it can;t hurt anything to over-change the oil.
Now I am using Pennzoil Platinum synthetic (in all of my vehicles) 5w20, and I always tell myself I am going to change at 5,000 miles. I never wind up going over 3000 miles so I am spending lots and lots for oil....
But, as an old gearhead, I sleep better and feel better when I am towing 10000 pounds...
