Question 01 lightning PCM problem

i have an 01 lightning with a couple minor mods, superchips into the PCM and a cat-back flowmaster exhaust. my truck doesn't pass emissions (their computer couldn't read my truck's). took it to the ford dealer who advised my PCM (computer) is bad, they want to install a new one, take out my superchip and my exhaust. taking the truck back to stock. $3320 to do so. WTF?!! i have a code reader and it was reading P420 (books says it's an oxygen sensor behind the cc). would my computer still be giving out codes if it was bad? there has to be cheaper way of doing this. can you just replace the computer yourself, or does it need to be programmed? how often does a superchips fry a truck computer? i HATE truck electrical issues. got to love emissions. any help anyone can lend would be appreciated!!! thank you

IMHO your tuck won't run if your computer is toasted.

Perhaps it's a problem with the OBDII port.

That's because with your custom tune overlay on the OEM program in the PCM, their diagnostic computer reads your PCM as having corrupted files.

You have to remove your custom tune and restore your original in order for their computer to properly read your PCM. Unless they have zero experience with custom tuned vehicles (very doubtful), I'm sure the dealership already knows this too, and are just trying have you part with your hard-earned cash. Not all dealerships are like this, but there are plenty that are just as unscrupulous on the service end, as they are on the selling end.

What are your "minor mods"? What have you done to the truck?

I might be incorrect, but I took the info in his initial post to mean he has a Superchips handheld tuner.

While Superchips certainly isn't cutting edge for the Lightnings (Diablo Predator and SCT handhelds are, as is the FAST system) the Superchips unit is functional.

Does the truck go back to stock with the tuner?
Is there a physical (Chip) mounted to the PCM? If so then pull the chip.
If you need some assistance with the issue feel free to email or call.
